  3. I hear things are going well and I can’t wait to hear about how dedication day goes tomorrow. We had a cute girl come hang with us for awhile today and she told me she was doing good. She said her grandma is such a good care taker that she really hasn’t been sad much at all! The girls got new matching sweaters Monday at the mall/party so they wore them to church tonight. Man I had to do many double takes to figure out which was my daughter. ;0)

Anyways, praying you through tomorrow and can’t wait to hear all the storie!!

  8. Hey Sharla, continuing to pray for you during this wonderful journey u r on! Can’t wait to hear about all awesome work u have accomplished along the way! Xoxoxo

  9. Hello all! Thank you so much for all your loving comments and prayers, they mean so much as we are here and away from many close family and friends (and missing you all). It is hard to even know where to start and there are so many of us who haven’t blogged anything yet. So….. unfortunately I can’t go into great detail at this time but I will try to in the near future.

Oh what an amazing trip we are having! The devil tried from the very beginning of our trip to knock us down and guess what, he did not win. Good even came from some of our group missing our flight. They will have to share their stories but my short story is a man that is clearly searching for our Lord and Savior and I had the opportunity to speak to him all the way from Grand Rapids to Atlanta non-stop about God, church, and our amazing mission trip. I pray God will continue to work on his heart, he was an amazing guy and I know God could do great things with him for His kingdom!

Our trip in San Ramon, I am just going to jump ahead to our dedication day. Our team has been an amazing uplifting group but the people of San Ramon were so full of joy and service! I can just tell you that all 4 of the homes that we dedicated accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior! Praise God! My special little God moments today, our little boy from our home, Hector 12 years old, said he was so thankful we were there and that he believed we were sent from above to come to them! Oh, I melted right there! Then as we were walking up heading back to the base camp to clean up and leave, our 17 year old boy followed me up and handed me a gift, a scarf. That was probably one of the most meaningful gifts, one given to me by someone who has so little! Our family was a grandmother, grandfather, 17 year old boy, 13 year old boy, 12 year old boy, 8 year old girl! They helped the entire time we worked on their home, and played games with us in our spare moments:)

Praise God for lives changed and please be in prayer for our first medical clinic tomorrow of 36 families.

Just a special word to my munchin

  10. Wow Shar that is truly awesome!!! I bet that scarf is something you will hold very close to your heart so sweet made me tear up reading all of this! I so wish we were there but will get our chance again soon;) looking very forward to getting your kids tomorrow after school and I will get them on here to write you a message if they haven’t already;) I cut Sandy J’s hair on Wed and she said your kids were being so good and everything was going smooth! Hope everyone is getting rested it sounds like your really busted those houses out! Praying for you ALL nonstop daily!! Sounds like Gods listening loud and clear so far and he has already softened many hearts! Also praying for the man you talked to on the plane that he will except Jesus into his heart;)
    Love you
    Jaimy

We are so blessed to have such wonderful family and friends back home taking care of our children. Leaves us open to God’s will and way rather than worrying about our kids! So a huge thank you to all of you who have helped. We miss our kids so much but we are kept so busy here and so excited to see what God has in store for us next. We are heading really soon to the medical clinic of 36 families. Plese be in prayer as many people are experiencing a bit of a stomch bug! Love you all!medical clin

  17. Kids arrived off the bus today and made themselves right at home!!! The weather was reslly bad today and i am shocked that they even had school many accidents near 68th and Warner and on Filmore! I guess it was an ice skating rink but Ly had our bus under control and the kiddos made it home!!! Brecken was super excited that Teagan was here!!! Everyone is all tucked in their own beds in our house so everyone should sleep good;) showed Klaysen how to turn on the basement TV so that when he wakes up way before us he can watch some cartoons;) kids seem just fine, Brielle said her ankle hurt in gym the other day and she wanted to call you but other than that things are good๐Ÿ˜ƒI am hoping they are feeling as comfortable away from home as they can be! We Love them and Love you guys ๐Ÿ’—
    Jaimy

P.s. Teagan said he loved my food at dinner;) I think he was just really hungry but it was really sweet and he did eat all his broccoli and clear his plate;)

  18. Sharla — It looks like while you are building homes in Guatemala that your children are building snowmen in West Michigan. You bring such joy to a team. We can’t wait to hear your stories. You are such a gamer to serve as you do as often as you do. Keep living and sharing The Story of God! – Pastor Jim

  19. I want to send posts back to each of you individually but unfortunately we have very litte time on the computers ๐Ÿ™‚ Imagine that! Here to do God’s work not be on computers, but I wanted to make sure I shared what I could here this a.m. I am sorry to say as you enjoy more and more beautiful snow we are enjoying the beauty of the mountains and sunshine:) We are having a recovery of sickness for several people that is a praise! People have woken up refreshed and ready for our final medical clinic! Please be in prayer as this is even a larger village with 50+ families!

Last night was amazing! The people were in a remote mountainous village. You would not believe the roads we traveled! Our drive was very long as we waited over and over for them to re-pave the road ahead of us. The people were much more reserved and shy. It took us a bit to get the children to come over and start engaging. But with coloring, jump ropes, frisbees and a big game of soccer God prevailed for us to connect! After the medical clinic finished we started the Jesus film. Then we as a team went up in front of the village to sing our lungs out and then 4 people from our group shared their personal testimonies! God is amazing as He has worked through so much in these people’s lives to bring them to where they are at today, serving Him in a remote village in a very poor country! Then Hermano Jesus presented the gospel to them. Oh how I wished I understood more of what he says, but somehow it is still incredibly powerful! The Spirit was definitely moving through the people. By the time the call was given and we traveled around the people laying hands on them and praying over them, the large majority of them came to know Christ last night! Praise God, He is so good! Several people were Christ followers already to as they prayed over the village people. God will use this village in great ways! My prayer is that they will become a beacon of light on the mountain top!

My prayers are for all of you also as you are facing the wild winter conditions. Thank you Ross and Jaimy for taking such good care of our kids! I am so glad Teagan said he liked the food rather than complaining:) We work on that at home but you never know what will come out of their mouths when you are not around. Hopefully they are being polite also:)

Brielle, you would just love meeting the children here and playing with them! Klaysen, there are so many jungle areas that you could hike through and use your knives to cut your way through. Also, you both would have loved the serious game of soccer (or futball) they had going on. Teago, we see the signs Tigo everywhere and it reminds us of you! There are so many little boys to play trucks with and color with and I know they would love to meet you all in person rather than me just telling them about you. We miss you all very much but we know you are in good hands! Hope Piper is doing well too. Love you all so much!

    Prayers for tonight!

  20. Sharla–Thank you so much for leading this team with Mike, it is appreciated more than you could know. I hope you are finding that this second trip, while not the same as your last one, is just as good in so many ways. There are so many people praying for you on an ongoing basis. I can’t wait to hear your stories. Praying for all of you.

  21. Praying for you as you are probably traveling to the village that you will minister to today! May God bless you and may you have a great harvest! Can’t wait to hear how it goes!
    Love, Teresa

  22. Its exciting to read all the little snip-its about whats going on down there…so glad you all are doing well. God is really using you guys!!! Praying.

  23. I imagine by now you are in bed from another long day and looking forward to your last day in Guatemala as much as you want to come home it is still so hard to leave;) excited to hear how the last medical clinic went!! Hopefully as good or better than the 1st;)
Well unlike the Adams kids your kids are all showered( you will have to read orbask Arica about Pats lack of showering for there kids;) LOL and we attempted to go see a movie but it was all sold out so we bought our tickets to see it tomorrow after church;) the kids are all doing great but very excited to see you on Mon!!!!! T has been a joy having them!! On another note I was going to cut your boys hair but neither want there hair cut and I didn’t want to be the mean aunt that cut their hair I think you guys need to the bad guys๐Ÿ™€sorry I tried!!!! Anyway we can figure something out soon after you get home if we need to!
Love ya and can’t wait to hear all about the trip!
    Jaimy

  24. Thank you all again and again for your prayers and taking care of our children while we are gone! We have missed many that we have been on the trip with before especially my Sandy who I have been with my last two trips:) But we have an amazing team this trip too and have developed a special bond with everyone here. It is amazing how God unites you as a team and the body of Christ and it is my prayer that we can come back united and bring that to our home’s and church’s!

Last night was a great reminder of how sometimes we travel down long, bumpy twisting roads only to come to the end and find there is no one there to welcome us! To find we are all alone and in a waiting period just to see where we go next. That is what happened to our team. We drove 1 1/2 hours to find no one at the village center and the man in charge did not even tell anyone we were coming. He took it upon himself to cancel us coming but never told anyone from Paradise Bound. But just like in life God had bigger and even better things waiting and it store for us! He didn’t want to give us a little snack when he could give us a feast! Dan contacted a village that he has wanted to go to for a while now and we are allowed to head over there. This was a village with a large home in the center of a farm. A barn covered area with lots of cattle was to the right of us and we had a cow right next to the Bano (bathroom). He was our guard because he would moo anytime we came to use the toilet:) People trickled in slowly at first but by the end we had served around 60 families! This village was very sweet and kind hearted. They were incredibly polite and some even seemed to be Westernized a little bit. Once again, coloring and painting nails was a big hit but so was soccer and frisbee! During and after the Jesus film there were many distractions with children and dogs roaming through and a teenage boy had a seizure. My mind began to wonder if there were very many people getting the message. But after we sang and had 3 more amazing testimonies from Team members, Hermano Jesus spoke to the crowd. Almost the entire village came forward to accept Christ as their Lord! God is so good! A few young children continued to play in the background, and one young man stood way off to the side. After we were done praying over the new believers and handing out Bibles; the young man stepped forward and said he had asked Christ into his heart but he wanted even more prayers! I was blown away! A young man that just as a new believer already understood his need to be surrounded with prayer! I think that took me 30 years to fully understand! God has big plans for this village and especially for this young man. I feel humbled and completely blessed to have been called on this trip and to be allowed to be part of their call to Christ!

Now we have a day of rest and shopping, but tonight will be a big night for group devotions! Please pray that anyone who has been holding back from Jesus all week in our team will be released from the walls in the heart and allow God to enter in!

    • Ahhhh….so wish I was there with you, but the people with you will be forever changed by getting to spend a week with you! I can’t always have you all to myself!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Ha!! It is awesome to hear all the stories! God is so good! Praying so much for a fun day shopping, but mostly for a life changing night tonight! Give everything to God that you don’t want to take home with you! I can’t wait to hear all about your trip and how God worked through you! Love you tons!! Can’t wait to see you!

  25. Hi Sharla,
Praying for your devotion time tonight. God has great plans for all of you. Excited for your return home tomorrow!
    Love,
    Mom J.

  26. Leaving here at 3 a.m. to head to the airport. Please pray for safe travels. Now we are heading into our final devotional time, I doubt there will be a dry eye in the house as we reflect on our week and how God has changed our lives forever. It has been such a blessing to be here again with Mike, and with great friends, my brother, brother-in-law, 3 nephews and a niece. It is amazing to see God working in each of their lives and how God is changing them! Teresa, I forgot to mention that Parker did an awesome job working with us on our house. You should have seen him play with our kids! The family just loved him! On to devotion time. Seee you all soon.
